Facility
At the moment, the proposed facility for PACA is a garage at 405 N. 3rd Ave. E, Chewelah (Map). It is currently used by the City of Chewelah for the maintenance of city vehicles. This location for PACA is more than suitable. It is close to the the Chewelah Museum and to Chewelah Park. The Chewelah Creek runs through the back portion of the property, making it an ideal location for picnics and outdoor activities. And the interior of the building has a clear-span area of 60 x 80 feet, which will serve nicely for the stage and for seating of approximately 250. The city has offered the garage to PACA as a long-term rental under very advantageous terms, which will go a long way toward making the PACA facility a near-term reality. A generous contribution from the estate of Liz Riley of $120,000, designated specifically for a bricks-and-mortar construction effort, allows PACA to take over the garage and immediately create a useful space that will serve its purposes admirably for the present. A further effort in the future will be necessary to realize completely the envisioned design. The future effort will include permanent seating, additions to the building and a parking lot. See the Designs link for proposed design ideas. An initial estimate to complete the Center is approximately $800,000, making fundraising a most important part of PACAs determined effort for existence at a level that will give the community a place for the arts of a quality that will suitably memorialize its first benefactor.
